Complete blackout driving lamp unit for mounting in the grille of WWII military vehicles. This sealed lamp unit is used in the blackout lighting system and provides limited illumination during night-time convoy operations without revealing position to enemy aircraft.

Voltage

6 Volt

Type

Sealed beam insert

Mounting

In grille

Part number

A-6145

Features

  • 6 volt sealed beam unit
  • Original specification A-6145
  • Grille mounting (centre position)
  • For blackout driving light
  • Diffused light beam towards road surface

★ Reproduction to original WWII specifications for authentic restoration of blackout lighting systems.

Application

Used on WWII vehicles with 6 volt electrical system. The blackout driving lamp is mounted centrally in the grille (left position from driver's view) and works in conjunction with the blackout marker lamps. Applied during WW2 on various military vehicles with this lighting system.

Installation notes

The unit is secured with a snap ring in the grille opening. The electrical connection runs via the central wiring. Note: this is a sealed beam unit - the lamp cannot be replaced, only the complete unit. Installation requires correct grille aperture with mounting ring.

Compatibility

Only suitable for 6 volt systems. For vehicles converted to 12V or 24V this lamp is not usable without modification (bulb replacement, which is technically complex with sealed beam units). Not compatible with the wing-mounted blackout lamp (different model).

Historical context

The blackout lighting system was developed during WWII to allow convoys to drive at night without detection by enemy air reconnaissance. The driving lamp provided minimal light to the road surface, whilst marker lamps enabled distance monitoring between vehicles via the 'cat's eye' system.
