★ Reproduction of the classic Seelite headlamp as originally produced by Corcoran Brown. Suitable for use in military vehicles converted from 6 to 12 volt.
Application
This 12 volt Seelite unit is intended for WWII military vehicles originally supplied with 6 volt but later converted to 12 volt. Originally, Seelite lamps were fitted in 6 volt on jeeps, Dodge WC 3/4 ton lorries, and other military vehicles. Fits in standard headlamp buckets with possibly minor modifications to the retaining clip (additional notches).
Installation notes
Note: The lamp unit may require additional notches in the retaining ring for some original headlamp buckets. Many WWII headlamp buckets have already been modified in the past. Check the fitting before installation. Rated voltage is often slightly higher (up to 14V) to provide protection against voltage spikes from the regulator.
Compatibility
ONLY suitable for 12 volt systems. Do NOT use this lamp on original 6 volt systems – for these, the 6 volt Seelite variant is required. When converting from 6 to 12 volt, all other lamps, voltage regulator and possibly fuel gauge must also be modified. For sealed beam alternatives: look for number 4431 (12V) instead of 4031 (6V).
Historical context
Corcoran Brown was during WWII an important manufacturer of Seelite brand headlamps for military vehicles. The PAR 46 size was used as standard on jeeps and 3/4 ton lorries, whilst larger vehicles such as CCKW lorries received the larger PAR 56 version. Original Seelite units are sought after by collectors and are characterised by a production date stamped on the rear.
