Application

Suitable for jeeps with trailer socket mounted in the tool box compartment. Factory-installed from May/June 1943 onwards on later WWII production vehicles. Earlier vehicles had the trailer socket, but often without protective cover.

Installation notes

Cover mounts to the inside of the tool box compartment above the trailer socket. Two screws through pre-drilled holes, with internal/external lock washers between cover and body. Mind correct orientation: cover opens upwards. Installation requires 7/8" hole for wiring and a mounting lug for the cover in the bottom of the tool box.

Compatibility

Specifically for vehicles with trailer socket mounted in the tool box compartment (left rear). Note: early production vehicles (before May 1943) often had no factory provision for this cover and require modification. Some early vehicles received the trailer socket as field modification without this protective cover.

Historical context

The trailer socket was added to production from September 1942, but the metal protective cover only followed later in a separate modification around May/June 1943. This cover was fitted as standard in the left tool box compartment to protect the electrical connection against the elements.
