Radiator to frame mounting strap right-hand side

Ground bond strap for early suppression system

Braided ground strap that electrically connects the radiator mounting to the front cross frame. Part of the Type 1 radio interference suppression system on early vehicles. Ensures properly earthed electrical systems and reduces radio noise.

Material

Braided copper wire

Finish

Tinned

Length

12-13 cm

Application

Early suppression up to approx. MB 289001

Features

  • Braided copper ground strap
  • Fitted with eye terminals on both ends
  • Mounting between radiator mounting bolt and soldered stud on cross frame
  • Tinned ends for durable connection
  • Part of Type 1 radio interference suppression system

★ Correct reproduction of the original radiator ground bond strap for early vehicles with Type 1 suppression system.

Application

For vehicles with Type 1 radio interference suppression, up to approx. serial number MB 289001 (end of 1943). From approximately December 1943, the change was made to Type 2 suppression with toothed lock washers instead of these ground straps. The studs on the cross frame were no longer fitted from that point onwards.

Installation notes

One eye attaches to the radiator mounting bolt, the other eye to the soldered stud on the underside of the front cross frame (right-hand side). Ensure contact surfaces are free from paint and corrosion. With Type 2 suppression (late vehicles), these straps are not required and the studs on the frame are absent.

Compatibility

ONLY suitable for early vehicles (approx. 1941-end 1943) that had Type 1 radio suppression and where the frame is fitted with soldered studs on the front cross frame. Late vehicles (from approx. MB 289001 / December 1943) no longer used radiator-to-frame bond straps but toothed lock washers on the radiator bolts.

Historical context

The radio interference suppression system on WWII jeeps was changed around the end of 1943 from Type 1 (with numerous bond straps) to Type 2 (with toothed lock washers). The radiator ground straps were part of the early system to suppress radio noise from the ignition system.
