KIT BONDING STRAP SET JEEP GPW
WOA5038F
Ford GPW Ground Bond Strap Set
Complete set for Ford GPW radio interference suppression
Complete set of ground bond straps (bonding straps) for the Ford GPW. These flat braided copper straps ensure correct earthing of all components and are essential for suppressing radio interference in the 6-volt electrical system. The straps also improve the operation of the generator, starter motor and lighting by guaranteeing an optimal earth connection.

- Prevents radio interference and improves earth contacts
- Complete with fitting hardware and star lock washers
★ These ground bond straps are critical components in the 6-volt electrical system. They not only provide radio interference suppression, but also improve the operation of starter motor, generator and lighting through optimal earth connections between engine, chassis and bodywork.
Application
Suitable for Ford GPW jeeps. The ground bond straps connect amongst others: engine block to chassis, generator to regulator, engine to firewall, bonnet to grille, and various other critical earth points. On late GPW models (from approximately December 1943), internal/external star lock washers were added for improved earth contacts.
Installation notes
Observe correct sequence during fitting: bolt - star lock washer - ground bond strap - star lock washer - chassis/component - star lock washer - nut. Remove paint at mounting points for optimal electrical contact. The star lock washers must bite into the metal for good conductivity. Fit the straps short enough to have tension, but not too tight to prevent breakage.
Compatibility
This is a set specifically for Ford GPW. Note: early GPW models (1941-1943) have a different number and different lengths of ground bond straps than late GPW models (1944-1945). Late models have a simplified 'Suppression Type 2' system with fewer straps but with additional star lock washers. Check your vehicle's serial number to determine the correct set.
Historical context
Ground bond straps were added to production from approximately 1942-1943 to suppress radio interference, allowing military radios to function without disturbance. The system created an electrically equal potential across all metal panels of the jeep. In December 1943 (Willys MB from serial number 288,835), the system was simplified to 'Suppression Type 2'.
