Original Willys part number WOA847

Thread

11/16" left-hand thread

Type

Steering ball (tie rod end)

Original part

WOA847

Contents

Ball with nut

Features

  • Left-hand thread version
  • 11/16" thread diameter
  • Complete with castle nut and grease nipple
  • Replaceable ball joint

★ Replacement part of solid quality. Steering balls must be checked regularly for play and wear — this component must rotate without play for safe steering.

Installation notes

The steering balls are screwed into the tie rod tube. Ensure the internal thread in the tube is clean and free from rust — use a thread tap or copper tube brush to clean the thread. Adjust the toe-in correctly after fitting by adjusting both tie rods. Tighten the steering ball and secure with the castle nut.

Compatibility

Note: MB/GPW use 11/16" thread diameter, later M38/M38A1 use 3/4" diameter — these are NOT interchangeable. Civilian CJ-2A/3A/3B also use 11/16" thread but have a different tie rod configuration.

Historical context

The original Willys part number WOA847 was used on the military MB and GPW jeeps during WWII and on early civilian CJ models until the early 1970s.
