Cork gasket steering box sector shaft (7/8")

For Ross steering box

Cork gasket for fitting beneath the side cover of the Ross steering box. This gasket provides an oil-tight seal between the sector shaft housing and the cover. Suitable for 7/8" (22.22 mm) sector shaft systems as supplied on WWII jeeps and early civilian models.

Material

Cork

Sector shaft diameter

7/8" (22.22 mm)

Steering box type

Ross cam & twin pin

Application

Steering box side cover

Features

  • Cork gasket for steering box sector shaft cover
  • 7/8" (22.22 mm) sector shaft diameter
  • For Ross cam & twin pin steering box
  • Fits between side cover and housing
  • Works together with oil seal for leak-proof sealing

★ Essential component when overhauling the Ross steering box. For optimal sealing, preferably fit with gasket sealant (not silicone RTV).

Installation notes

Fit with a thin layer of gasket sealant (not silicone RTV). Avoid over-tightening — cork must not be crushed. Tighten evenly across the fixing bolts. Note: bottom two bolts require copper crush washers.

Compatibility

ONLY for 7/8" sector shaft systems. Not suitable for M38/M38A1 (15/16" shaft) or late CJ-5 with V6 engine (also 15/16" shaft). For these larger systems, the gasket must be replaced with gasket sealant.

Historical context

The Ross cam & twin pin steering box was used from 1941 on the Willys MB and Ford GPW and remained in production until the 1960s for civilian CJ models. The 7/8" sector shaft system was standard for all four-cylinder models.
