Steering Bellcrank Shaft Seal

For 3/4" (19mm) shaft

Rubber seal for the steering bellcrank shaft on early Willys MB, Ford GPW and CJ-2A models. This seal prevents grease leakage and keeps dirt and moisture out of the bellcrank bearings. Essential component for a properly functioning and maintenance-friendly steering system.

Material

Rubber

Shaft diameter

3/4" (19mm)

Application

Bellcrank bearing

Quantity

1 piece (2 required per shaft)

Features

  • Replaces dried out or damaged original seal
  • Protects bearings against dirt, moisture and road salt
  • Prevents grease leakage from bellcrank bearings
  • Easy to replace during maintenance or overhaul
  • Critical component for precise steering operation

★ Each bellcrank shaft requires 2 seals: one at the top and one at the bottom of the bearings. When replacing, always check the condition of the bearings and the shaft itself.

Application

Suitable for early Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945) and CJ-2A up to serial number 199079 (1946-1948) with 3/4" diameter bellcrank shaft. Please note: later CJ-2A (after serial number 199079), CJ-3A, CJ-3B and M38/M38A1 models use a 7/8" diameter shaft and require a different seal.

Installation notes

The seal is installed around the bellcrank shaft, above and below the bearings. First remove the bellcrank from the shaft. Lightly grease the new seal before installation to prevent damage during fitting. Ensure the seal is evenly and completely seated in the correct position.

Compatibility

PLEASE NOTE: This is the seal for the 3/4" (19mm) diameter bellcrank shaft, as used on early MB, GPW and early CJ-2A. Later models from CJ-2A serial number 199079 onwards, all CJ-3A, CJ-3B, M38 and M38A1 models use a 7/8" (22mm) diameter shaft and require a different seal. Check the diameter of your bellcrank shaft before ordering.

Historical context

The bellcrank formed an essential part of the mechanical steering system on all early Willys jeeps. From 1948 onwards, the shaft diameter was increased from 3/4" to 7/8" for improved durability and reduced wear.
