★ Accurate reproduction of the early Ford GPW data plates in authentic brass, as used on the first production jeeps in 1942 before Ford switched to steel and later aluminium data plates.

Application

Suitable for early Ford GPW jeeps built in 1942. Ford initially used brass data plates on the first GPW production, similar to the Willys MB. From mid-1942, Ford switched to steel data plates, and from mid-1944 to aluminium.

Installation notes

The three data plates are mounted on the glove box using rivets. Ford used 12 rivets per vehicle. The data plates are pressed in from the front and flattened at the rear. Note: this set contains only the data plates, the mounting rivets are available separately.

Compatibility

Only suitable for early Ford GPW production 1942 with brass data plates. Not suitable for later GPW (mid-1942-1944 = steel data plates, mid-1944-EOP = aluminium data plates). Also not suitable for Willys MB – which had different stamping details and edge finishing.

Historical context

The earliest Ford GPW jeeps from early 1942 received brass data plates, a short-lived practice that Ford adopted from Willys. Within a few months, Ford switched to steel due to material shortages during the war.
