★ An essential detail for the correct finish of Combat Rim wheels. This warning plate was originally fitted by Kelsey Hayes to the rims and was supplied with every WWII Combat Rim.
Application
This warning plate is fitted to the outside of Combat Rim split rim wheels (16 x 4.5"), as used on WWII jeeps from serial number MB120700 (from early 1942) and later military jeeps with split rim wheels. Also suitable for M38 and M38A1 Combat Rims.
Installation notes
The plate is riveted or attached to the outer half of the Combat Rim. Position: visible on the outside, usually near the valve hole. Fit before the rim is painted or after stripping, for an original finish.
Compatibility
ONLY for Combat Rim (split rim) wheels — NOT for solid disc wheels. Combat Rims are recognisable by the eight bolts holding the two rim halves together. Early MBs up to serial number MB120700 had solid disc wheels without this plate.
Historical context
Combat Rims were developed from 1941 by Kelsey Hayes and fitted with warning plates containing safety instructions. The split rim construction enabled quick tyre changes, but required correct disassembly to prevent accidents.
