★ High-quality reproduction to original WWII specifications. Complete with pressed bronze bushing.

Application

For Willys MB and Ford GPW with torque reaction spring system. The torque reaction spring was introduced from 1942 via retrofit kit A-6157 and fitted to later production vehicles to reduce pull to the right during hard braking. Mounts on the left side of the frame between the front leaf spring pivot and the torque reaction spring.

Installation notes

The shackle is mounted with the bronze bushing upwards (chassis side, 16 mm pivot pin) and the smaller bore downwards (torque reaction spring side, 9/16" bolt). Fit together with the inner shackle (WO-A6068) and check that the spring can move freely without binding.

Compatibility

Fits Willys MB and Ford GPW with torque reaction spring installation. Not all jeeps were supplied from the factory with torque reaction spring – early vehicles (before late 1942) did not have this system. The torque reaction spring is an optional improvement and not required for use, but useful for original restorations or to improve handling.

Historical context

The torque reaction spring system was developed by Willys at the request of the Quartermaster Corps to correct pull to the right during hard braking, caused by engine torque reaction. Kit A-6157 was released from September 1942 as a retrofit kit for existing vehicles.
