Installation notes
The torque reaction spring shackle set consists of two brackets with different bushings: the outer bracket has a 5/8" inside diameter bushing, the inner one a 9/16" inside diameter bushing. Both have a 3/4" outside diameter. The brackets connect the torque reaction spring to the spring pivot bracket on the driver's side.
Compatibility
Not all WWII Jeeps were equipped with a torque reaction spring. This system was introduced as retrofit kit A-6157 at the request of the Quartermaster Corps from September 1942. Many early and late production Jeeps did not have this system. The CJ-2A did not use a torque reaction spring.
Historical context
The torque reaction spring was developed to counter the asymmetric sagging of the left front during braking, a phenomenon known as 'Jeep lean'. The system was introduced via Technical Service Bulletin of 1 September 1942.
