★ This NOS leaf spring shackle is of original quality and suitable for restorations where authenticity is important. The greaseable version with grease fittings ensures ease of maintenance.

Application

Location: Right front side OR left rear side. Note: 4 shackle kits are required for a complete jeep. The threaded bushings are fitted with right-hand thread on both sides (frame and spring side). For left front and right rear a different version with left-hand thread on the spring side is required (802061).

Installation notes

The threaded bushing bites into the metal of the spring eye - ensure the shackle is started straight and centred to prevent cross-threading. Always start by hand before tightening with tools. Right-hand thread means: clockwise = tight, anticlockwise = loose. Requires greasing via the grease fittings after installation.

Compatibility

Note the difference between left-hand and right-hand thread versions. Originally MB/GPW jeeps had a mixed system: left front and right rear had left-hand thread on the spring side (802061), right front and left rear had right-hand thread on both sides (802062). Many restorations convert entirely to right-hand thread for all four corners - check what your chassis requires.

Historical context

The U-bolt type leaf spring shackle with threaded bushings was standard on military Willys MB and Ford GPW jeeps and remained in use on the early civilian CJ models. The left-hand thread at certain positions was intended to protect the shackle against loosening due to driving dynamics.
