Features
- Set of two complete units (cap + seal)
- Protects slip yoke against dirt and water
- Retains lubricating grease in the slip yoke
- Metal cap with crimped rubber seal
- Suitable for front and rear propeller shaft
★ Original specification reproduction — essential maintenance to prevent premature wear of the slip yoke.
Application
These dust caps are fitted to the slip yoke where it slides over the splines of the propeller shaft. Fits both front and rear propeller shaft. The cap is slid over the slip yoke and secured with the tabs to the end of the propeller shaft.
Installation notes
Before removal, mark the position of the slip yoke relative to the propeller shaft to maintain balance. Straighten the retaining tabs, remove the old cap and thoroughly clean all surfaces. Lightly lubricate the rubber of the new seal with oil before fitting. Slide the slip yoke back in the same position and fold the cap tabs over. Check that the grease nipple functions and grease the slip yoke before use.
Compatibility
Please note: this set consists of separate caps and seals. When replacing, check that the slip yoke itself shows no play — if the sliding surfaces are excessively worn, the complete slip yoke must be replaced. The caps are not compatible with Cleveland-type universal joints (with locking strap and bolt).
Historical context
The slip yoke dust cap was standard equipment on all WWII jeeps and later civilian models. The system with metal cap and felt/rubber seal remained in production unchanged until the mid-1960s.
