Replaces Rubber boot A-2915 |
Ordnance no. A-3783 |
Features
- Original Ordnance part number: A-3783
- Replaces rubber version A-2915 (early production)
- Natural colour leather with rough-out finish
- Originally dyed in Olive Drab
- Suitable for transmission gear lever
★ Historically correct leather version as used from August 1942. The leather was dyed in Olive Drab colour in original production.
Application
Applied on Willys MB from contract W5 (early 1943) until end of production, and on Ford GPW from contract F-2 (mid-1942) until end of production. The transition from rubber to leather took place in August 1942 for the MB and mid-1942 for the GPW, depending on assembly location.
Installation notes
The leather boot is slipped over the gear lever and fixed to the floor plate. A rubber or leather retaining ring may be used to keep the top of the boot in shape around the lever. The boot must have sufficient clearance to move smoothly during gear changes.
Compatibility
ONLY for transmission gear lever. For transfer case lever, a separate boot with double opening is required (A-3784). For accelerator pedal cover, a separate part exists (A-3782). Early production vehicles (before mid-1942) had rubber boots.
Historical context
During WWII, rubber parts were replaced from mid-1942 by leather alternatives due to shortages of strategic raw materials. The leather boots were produced in natural colour and subsequently dyed in Olive Drab.
