SHIM ADJUSTING SYNCHRONISER T-84 SET
Shim set for T-84 synchroniser assembly
Mainshaft endplay shims for correct synchronizer adjustment
Shim set for adjusting the axial endplay of the mainshaft in the T-84 gearbox. These shims are fitted behind the mainshaft rear bearing and are essential for correct synchronizer operation and optimising shift quality in 2nd and 3rd gear.
Application T-84 transmission mainshaft endplay adjustment | Vehicle Willys MB, Ford GPW (1941-1945) |
Function Mainshaft axial endplay / synchronizer tolerance adjustment | Type Set with various thicknesses for precision adjustment |
Features
- Shims for mainshaft endplay adjustment per TM 9-1803B specifications Essential during overhaul to compensate for gearbox case wear Affects 3rd gear blocking ring tolerance and shift quality Various thicknesses for precision adjustment between 0.006" and 0.012" (0.15-0.30 mm) Fitted behind snap ring of mainshaft rear bearing Prevents excessive tightness or excessive clearance leading to overheating or poor shifting
★ Critical component in professional T-84 overhaul – correct endplay determines synchronizer service life and shift comfort. Worn gearbox cases require thicker shim material.
📖 From the Technical Manual
Mounting
- 1. Install mainshaft with gears and rear bearing in transmission 2. Fit test assembly with transfercase adapter or bearing retainer 3. Measure axial endplay with dial gauge – specification: 0.006"-0.012" (0.15-0.30 mm) 4. Add or remove shims until desired endplay is achieved 5. Verify bearing seats firmly against rear of transmission case
Specifications
- Required mainshaft endplay: 0.006" – 0.012" (0.15 – 0.30 mm) Measured between rear bearing and axial movement of mainshaft Excessive tightness: overheating, binding, premature wear Excessive clearance: rattling, oil leaks, difficult shifting
