★ Authentic Willys-Overland chassis from the early post-war Universal CJ series. The CJ-3A chassis features several important differences compared to the earlier CJ-2A model, including the forward-facing left engine support bracket required for the larger fuel/vacuum pump.

Application

Willys CJ-3A (1949-1953). Due to similar construction, partially compatible with CJ-2A and M38, but note frame differences: CJ-3A has left engine mount facing forward, CJ-2A facing rearward. M38 has boxed front section and military mounting points not found on civilian frames.

Installation notes

Before fitting, check serial number stamping on driver's side at front of frame. Verify engine mounting points: left mount must face forward (typical CJ-3A). When replacing chassis, all body mounts, suspension attachments and drivetrain components must be checked for correct fit and alignment.

Compatibility

CJ-2A and CJ-3A chassis are largely interchangeable but NOT identical. Important difference: position of left engine support bracket (CJ-2A rearward, CJ-3A forward). M38 military frames have boxed front section, tie-down points at corners and other military features — these are NOT directly interchangeable with civilian CJ frames. CJ-3B and M38A1 have longer front section for Hurricane engine.

Historical context

The CJ-3A chassis was introduced in 1949 as successor to the CJ-2A, with improvements including modified engine mounts for the new fuel/vacuum pump and reinforced leaf spring suspension (10 leaves) for agricultural applications. Produced by Willys-Overland until 1953.
