Features

  • Identical front and rear (4 pieces required per vehicle)
  • Compatible with standard 9" x 1¾" brake system

★ Replacement part to original specification for 9-inch drum systems on WWII military vehicles.

Installation notes

The hub must be hydraulically pressed onto the drum with adequate support. Note: on some hubs, the centre bore may need to be machined by a few thousandths for correct fitting. The drum is held in place by the wheel studs which protrude from the inside through the hub. After installation, new drums may require light machining for perfect concentricity with the hub.

Compatibility

CAUTION: Two different mounting methods exist for 9-inch drums: (1) Drum mounts on outside of hub (wheel studs protrude from inside outward through drum) — used on early MB/GPW/CJ-2A, (2) Drum mounts on inside of hub (original number A-472) — used on some late models. Check your existing set-up before ordering. This is the outside-mounting version.

Historical context

The 9-inch drum brake was standard on the Willys MB and Ford GPW during WWII production. Original drums were supplied by manufacturers including Bendix and Kelsey Hayes, with casting markings varying by sub-supplier.
