Wheel stud nut right-hand thread

For right-hand side of vehicle

Wheel stud nut with right-hand thread for mounting the wheel onto the hub. WWII military vehicles used both left-hand and right-hand thread nuts: right-hand thread on the right-hand side of the vehicle, left-hand thread on the left-hand side. This system was designed to prevent nuts from loosening themselves during driving.

Features

  • Right-hand thread (RH thread)
  • For mounting on right-hand side of vehicle
  • Original WWII specification

Installation notes

Always tighten nuts in a star pattern. Use a torque wrench and tighten in multiple stages. Check the torque again after 50-100 km. Thread must be clean and dry – do not use grease or oil on the thread.

Compatibility

Note: right-hand thread nuts belong ONLY on the right-hand side of the vehicle. The left-hand side uses left-hand thread nuts. On Ford GPW, nuts were marked with 'R' or 'L'. On Willys MB, the left-hand nut had a notch in the hexagon, the right-hand nut had no marking.

Historical context

WWII military vehicles used a dual thread system with right-hand thread on the right and left-hand thread on the left, a principle adopted from heavy lorries to prevent wheels from loosening themselves.
