Sector shaft oil seal

Ross steering box 7/8" sector shaft

Oil seal for the sector shaft of the Ross steering box. This seal prevents oil leakage where the shaft exits the steering case and is essential for proper functioning of the steering transmission.

Type

Sector shaft oil seal

Diameter

7/8" (22.2 mm)

Vehicle

Willys MB, Ford GPW, CJ-2A, CJ-3A, CJ-3B

Application

Ross steering box

Features

  • Oil seal for Ross steering box
  • Dimensions suitable for 7/8" sector shaft
  • Prevents steering box oil leakage
  • Essential during steering box overhaul
  • Compatible with standard Ross steering boxes

★ High-quality reproduction for the classic Ross steering box. Replacement of this seal eliminates oil leakage and contributes to precise, play-free steering.

Application

Suitable for Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945), CJ-2A (1946-1949), CJ-3A (1949-1953) and CJ-3B (1953-1964) with Ross steering box and 7/8" sector shaft. Also applicable to early CJ-5 models (1955-1966) with four-cylinder engine.

Installation notes

The seal is fitted to the side cover of the steering box where the sector shaft exits. When replacing, clean the steering box, remove the old seal and carefully fit the new seal without damaging the lip. Check the sector shaft for grooves or wear — a damaged shaft can cause a new seal to leak immediately.

Compatibility

This seal fits all Ross steering boxes with 7/8" sector shaft. NOT suitable for M38/M38A1 (these have 15/16" sector shaft) or later CJ-5/CJ-6 with V6 engine (1" shaft). Always check the diameter of your sector shaft before ordering.

Historical context

The Ross Gear & Tool Company of Detroit supplied the steering boxes for virtually all military Willys MB and Ford GPW jeeps during WWII. These seals are critical sealing components that prevent oil leakage and extend the service life of the steering system.
