★ Essential tool for correctly marking restored WWII military vehicles according to original Army Regulations.
Application
The 6 inch star was applied according to AR 850-5 on doors, side panels and rear doors of jeeps, ambulances and light trucks. Larger surfaces such as bonnets received a 15, 20 or 25 inch star, depending on the vehicle type.
Installation notes
Firmly attach the stencil to the surface to be marked. Apply with white, matt paint (gasoline solvent paint or modern equivalent). Multiple thin coats give the best result. Remove stencil whilst paint is still slightly wet to maintain sharp edges.
Compatibility
Suitable for all WWII Allied vehicles where 6 inch stars were prescribed: jeep doors, small areas on trucks, ambulance rear doors. NOT suitable for jeep bonnets (these received 15-20 inch stars) or roofs (which received 25-36 inch stars with invasion circle).
Historical context
The white five-pointed star became the national symbol for all American tactical vehicles from May 1942 according to AR 850-5. The size varied per vehicle type to make optimal use of the available surface area.
