Installation notes
Torque specification wheel bolts (wheel to drum): 60-70 ft.lbs / 81-95 Nm. Torque specification rim bolts (two wheel halves): 60-70 ft.lbs / 81-95 Nm. Assembly with beadlock-ring between wheel halves. Use tyre flap between tyre and inner tube. Note: left side has left-hand thread on wheel bolts (loosen = clockwise).
Compatibility
This wheel fits all WWII and post-war military vehicles with 5 x 5.5" bolt pattern. Combat wheels became standard from serial number MB-120700 (early 1942) and on all Ford GPW. Earlier MBs up to serial number 120700 had 4" solid disc wheels. Note: Land Rover combat wheels have a different bolt pattern (6.5" PCD) and do NOT fit.
Historical context
Combat wheels were introduced in 1942 by Kelsey Hayes Wheel Company and replaced the earlier solid disc wheels. The design with beadlock-ring made it possible to continue driving 40+ miles after tyre damage without air in the tyre.
