Application
Suitable for early Willys MB (November 1941 to September 1944, up to serial number MB 373737) and all Ford GPW models that used the external hand brake construction. These were later replaced by the internal expanding-type hand brake system.
Installation notes
The band is mounted around the 6" hand brake drum at the rear of the transfer case. Ensure the drum is clean and free from oil. The hand brake cable pulls the band together causing it to grip the drum. Adjustment is made via cable tension.
Compatibility
NOT suitable for late MB (after September 1944) and later models (CJ-2A, CJ-3A, M38) that used the internal expanding-type hand brake system. Check your vehicle: early models have the hand brake drum visible at the rear of the transfer case.
Historical context
The external hand brake construction was used in early wartime production until mid-1944, after which Willys switched to a more reliable internal expanding-type system. Ford retained the external construction throughout GPW production.
