Flywheel to crankshaft mounting bolt

Hardened steel, Grade 8

Hardened bolt for mounting the flywheel (bell housing) to the crankshaft of the L-134 engine. This critical connection requires Grade 8 hardened bolts to withstand the forces during clutch engagement and starting. 4 bolts required per engine.

Material

Hardened steel, Grade 8

Application

Flywheel to crankshaft

Quantity per engine

4 pieces

Engine type

L-134 and F-134

Features

  • Grade 8 hardened bolt for maximum strength
  • Hex head with correct thread pitch
  • Critical flywheel-to-crankshaft connection
  • 4 bolts required per engine
  • Suitable for L-134 and F-134 engines

★ Grade 8 hardened quality ensures reliable flywheel mounting under all operating conditions.

Installation notes

The flywheel is mounted to the crankshaft with 4 bolts. On early engines (MB/GPW), tapered dowel bolts inserted from the rear of the crankshaft are sometimes used — this requires removal of the sump and rear main bearing cap. On later engines, straight bolts are standard. Always verify which system is used on your engine. Flywheel torque specification: 35-41 ft-lbs.

Compatibility

Note: early L-134 engines (MB/GPW, early CJ-2A) sometimes used special tapered dowel bolts inserted from the rear through the crankshaft. Later engines (late CJ-2A, CJ-3A, CJ-3B, M38) use standard straight bolts. Verify before installation which system is fitted to your engine.

Historical context

The flywheel mounting is one of the most heavily loaded connections in the Go Devil engine. During WWII, strict quality control was applied to these bolts due to their critical function.
