Features
- Pressed steel construction with original top hat cross-section
- With wooden inlays conforming to original specification
- Fully stamped profile without welds or pieced construction
- Provided with mounting holes for bolt attachment
- Suitable for Willys MB body ACM1 (November 1941 - December 1943)
- Suitable for Ford GPW body ACM1 (September 1943 - December 1943)
★ These hat channels are manufactured reproductions that follow the original steel thickness and profile shape. The wooden inlays provide mounting points and prevent deformation of the steel during installation.
Application
Fits Willys MB with ACM1 body (chassis numbers from MB-122xxx to approximately MB-440000, built November 1941 - December 1943) and Ford GPW with ACM1 body (September - December 1943). Not suitable for early slat grill MB or later ACM2/composite bodies (from January 1944). ACM1 bodies are recognisable by their specific underfloor construction with U-shaped reinforcement profiles.
Installation notes
The top hat profiles are welded or bolted transversely under the front floor, between the bulkheads and the transmission tunnel panel. The wooden inlays serve as a pressure point for the mounting bolts that pass through the floor panel. Note: early Willys MB and later ACM2 bodies have a different profile and are not interchangeable. Before installation, verify that your body is an ACM1 type.
Compatibility
ONLY for ACM1 bodies. NOT suitable for: early Willys MB slat grill with different floor construction, ACM2 composite bodies (Willys MB January 1944 - August 1945), Ford-built bodies (December 1941 - August 1943), or post-war CJ models. If in doubt: check whether your jeep has body numbers stamped on the gussets (= ACM-type body).
Historical context
The ACM1 (American Central Manufacturing Type 1) body was produced by supplier American Central for both Willys and Ford. This was the first standardised body type after the early slat grill period, characterised by specific reinforcement profiles under the floor that differ from the later ACM2 version.
