Glass bowl for fuel pump

Sediment bowl with brass filter screen

Replacement glass bowl (sediment bowl) for mechanical fuel pumps on Willys MB, Ford GPW and related vehicles with 134ci engine. This glass bowl contains a brass filter screen and functions as a sediment trap and visual check of fuel quality.

Material

Glass with brass filter screen

Function

Sediment trap with visual inspection

Willys part number

WO-A1494

Ford part number

GPW-9355

Features

  • Glass bowl with brass filter screen
  • Fits AC-type fuel pumps with glass bowl
  • Visible inspection for water and sediment
  • Internal brass screen traps contamination
  • Original style design

★ This glass bowl is essential for filtering sediment and water from the fuel system. The transparent design enables visual inspection — an important maintenance aspect on historic vehicles with old fuel tanks.

Application

Fits fuel pumps with glass bowl design: Willys MB/GPW (1941-1945), CJ-2A (1946-1949), CJ-3A (1949-1953). Later used on CJ-3B, CJ-5 and related models with 134ci L-head or F-head engine. Note: M38A1 and some later models use a flat pump without glass bowl.

Installation notes

The glass bowl is secured with a retaining ring or clip to the bottom of the fuel pump. Check the gasket between bowl and pump housing for damage during installation. The brass screen must be present and free from contamination. Always fit the bowl facing downwards — the fuel pump is always mounted with the bowl at the bottom.

Compatibility

Fits AC-type fuel pumps with glass bowl, such as AC 1537766, AC-572 and replicas thereof. Not suitable for dual-action pumps without glass bowl (such as AC 9353 on some CJ-3A), or flat pumps on M38A1. Check whether your current pump has a glass bowl before ordering.

Historical context

The glass sediment bowl was standard on WWII-era MB/GPW fuel pumps and remained in use into the 1960s on various Willys and Jeep models. This design combined filtering with visual fuel inspection — essential in an era when fuel was often contaminated with sediment and water.
