  • Suitable for mounting beneath tapping plate (A-3583)
  • Pressed steelwork conforming to original specification

★ Essential part for the structural integrity of the dashboard glove box. Available in both early flat and late ribbed versions.

Application

This part is the floor panel of the glove box, onto which the glovebox door is attached via a tapping plate. Early Willys MB and Ford GPW bodies (until approx. March 1942) had a flat floor panel. Late Ford production and ACM (American Central Manufacturing) bodies from approx. MB 125xxx onwards received two reinforcement ribs for additional strength.

Installation notes

The floor panel is installed in the dashboard opening of the glove box. On the inside, the tapping plate (A-3583) is positioned, a flat strip of 1/2 inch by 7 1/2 inches with three tapped holes. The glovebox door is secured with three screws No. 10 x 24, length 3/8 inch, plus lock washers to this tapping plate.

Compatibility

Note the difference between early and late versions: early bodies (until approx. MB 125xxx / end of slat-grill production) have a flat floor panel, later production has two reinforcement ribs. Check your original part to determine which version you require. The ribbed version was introduced by Ford between August 1942 and April 1943.

Historical context

The reinforced floor panel with ribs was introduced around the end of slat-grill production (March 1942, around MB 125xxx). This was a Ford improvement that was later adopted by ACM bodies for both Willys MB and Ford GPW production.
