For Dana Spicer 18 transfer case

Material

Cast iron

Transfer case type

Dana Spicer 18

Models with handbrake on transfer case

Function

Rear output bearing seat

Features

  • Reproduction rear output bearing housing
  • Suitable for Dana 18 transfer case
  • Mounts with handbrake support plate
  • Reinforced construction against cracking
  • Pre-drilled mounting holes

★ This housing is a vulnerable component susceptible to cracking and failure during use. Essential when overhauling the transfer case.

Application

Fits vehicles with Dana Spicer 18 transfer case where the handbrake is mounted on the rear of the transfer case. The handbrake support plate mounts on top of this housing. Suitable for configurations with internal handbrake disc seat.

Installation notes

Mounts with four bolts to the rear of the transfer case. Note: one bolt is shorter as it only threads into the housing, the remaining bolts thread through into the transfer case. Use thread sealant on the through bolts. Torque: 30 ft-lbs. Shims are required for correct rear bearing preload.

Compatibility

Only suitable for Dana 18 transfer cases with handbrake mounting at the rear. Not applicable to configurations with external handbrake drum or without handbrake. Note: the speedometer drive must be transferred when replacing.

Historical context

The Dana Spicer 18 transfer case was fitted from 1941 on military and civilian jeeps. This rear bearing housing was an integral component for models with internal handbrake arrangement.
