Application
For Autolite MZ-4113 starter on Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945), CJ-2A (1946-1949), early CJ-3A and CJ-3B with 6 volt system. Also usable in 12 volt conversions retaining the original 6 volt starter.
Installation notes
The key fits into the slot of the armature shaft and holds the Bendix drive in place. During installation: ensure the key is fully seated in the shaft slot before sliding on the Bendix. Check after installation that the Bendix can rotate freely without play.
Compatibility
Specific to Autolite MZ-4113 starter (10-tooth Bendix with 97-tooth flywheel). Does NOT fit later key-start starters (MCH-6203, MCH-6207 types) which have a different shaft configuration.
Historical context
The Autolite MZ-4113 was the standard 6 volt Bendix starter on WWII Willys MB and Ford GPW jeeps, operated via foot switch. This simple yet robust starter was also fitted to early civilian CJ models until the late 1940s.
