Installation notes
During overhaul: clean carburettor thoroughly with carburettor cleaner (sandblasting not recommended without protecting passages). Use appropriate screwdrivers to avoid damaging brass components. Check float height after assembly. Leave bore plugs undisturbed if possible.
Compatibility
Please note: different versions of overhaul kits exist. A basic kit contains gaskets and small parts. A master kit additionally contains brass jets, accelerator pump, coupling rods, metering rods, etc. Check which kit you require for your overhaul.
Historical context
The Carter WO was the original downdraft carburettor used on military jeeps during WWII and early civilian Willys models. Carter produced various variants including the 539S (early WWII), 596S, 636S and 698S.
