Type TYPE AR |
Mounting Inside dashboard, above glove box opening |
Features
- Suitable for push-button glove box latch (not for early keyed lock version)
- Complete with mounting screw, flat washer and retaining ring
- Often missing on original bodies and not supplied with reproduction body shells
- Requires pre-drilled mounting hole in upper dash panel (standard from April 1942)
★ Essential mounting component that is often missing in restorations. Without this striker plate, the glove box cannot lock properly.
Application
For vehicles equipped with push-button glove box latch. From April 1942, Willys MB and Ford GPW were fitted with a push-button latch instead of a keyed lock, for which this striker plate is necessary. Also suitable for Hotchkiss M201 with standard push-button latch.
Installation notes
Mount the striker plate to the inside of the dashboard, directly above the glove box opening. A pre-drilled screw hole must be present in the dash — this is standard on bodies from April 1942. The plate is secured with the supplied screw, flat washer and retaining ring. After installation, test that the push-button latch engages correctly into the striker plate when the door is closed.
Compatibility
NOT compatible with early vehicles (before April 1942) that used a keyed lock — these did not require a striker plate. If there is NO pre-drilled mounting hole in the dashboard, the vehicle originally had a keyed lock and this striker plate is not correct for that version.
Historical context
From April 1942, Willys and Ford switched from a keyed lock to a simpler push-button latch for the glove box, as part of the simplification of production during WWII. This change required the addition of a striker plate to the inside of the dashboard to receive the new latch.
