Application
For the tool boxes mounted in the rear mudguards of WWII military jeeps. Early production models (slat-grille jeeps up to chassis 118,599) had a different hinge system with key lock; later vehicles received push button locks such as this example. The H700 key was identical to the ignition switch key on the earliest Willys MB models.
Installation notes
Mounting via fixing bracket to inside of tool box wall with screws. Note: early Ford GPW (1942) used a different fixing bracket than later Willys and composite bodies. Each vehicle requires two lock mechanisms (left and right).
Compatibility
Suitable for late production MB and GPW vehicles with push button system. NOT suitable for early slat-grille jeeps (up to chassis ~118,599) which used a different hinge system and key lock. Early models had the lock instead of push button and used the H700 key identical to the ignition switch.
Historical context
The tool boxes on the WWII jeep served for storage of standard tools and personal equipment. Early production used key locks with H700 keys, but this was simplified to push button system for faster production and operational use during the war.
