Application
Developed as late war replacement for standard hand wipers on WWII vehicles. Used on late production vehicles from mid-1944 onwards. The tandem coupling enables operation of both wipers from either driver's or passenger's side.
Installation notes
Mount wipers through existing 1/4 inch holes in the windscreen. Note correct insertion of spindle – wipers must pass completely through windscreen so that flat retaining washer fits on inside. Tandem rod connects between the two operating levers. No additional drilling required when replacing earlier hand wipers.
Compatibility
Fits standard WWII windscreen frames with 1/4 inch wiper holes spaced approximately 23.5 inches apart. Not suitable for later vacuum wiper versions without modifications. Blades are 9 inch – differing from early 8.5 inch hand wiper blades.
Historical context
The ANCO RAINMASTER tandem wipers were issued from 1944 as military field kit to replace early individual hand wipers. The locking mechanism made it possible to safely flip up the wipers during off-road driving or combat operations.
