★ This rear panel is an accurate reproduction of the original design as used on late production MB/GPW vehicles. Supplied in untreated condition, suitable for professional welding during restoration projects.
Application
Suitable for Willys MB and Ford GPW built from mid-1942 until end of production in 1945. This 'plain' panel without script stamp was used after the early production script panels (stamped with 'Ford' or 'Willys') were phased out in mid-1942. Fits all later body types including composite ACM bodies from January 1944.
Installation notes
This panel must be welded into the existing body. Professional fitting by an experienced panel beater is strongly recommended. Ensure all mounting points are correctly positioned before final welding. Panel is supplied untreated — clean, prime and paint according to restoration specifications.
Compatibility
Please note: this is a 'plain' rear panel without stamped manufacturer name. Early Willys MB (until November 1941) and early Ford GPW (February–July 1942) originally had a script panel with respectively 'Willys' or 'Ford' stamped in the left-hand section. From July 1942 this was replaced by the plain panel as offered here. Not suitable for vehicles where historical correctness of a script panel is required.
Historical context
During WWII, Willys and Ford produced more than 640,000 MB/GPW jeeps. The first production examples had the manufacturer's name stamped in the rear panel, but this was discontinued in July 1942 to streamline production. From January 1944 onwards, composite bodies from American Central Manufacturing with standardised panels for both manufacturers were introduced.
