★ This rear panel with stamped Ford script is a rare and valuable component for the authentic restoration of early Ford GPW jeeps. The script logo was discontinued in July 1942 at the request of the military, making this early version particularly sought after by collectors and restorers of script GPWs.
Application
Specifically for Ford GPW jeeps produced between February 1942 and July 1942 (up to approximately serial number 50,000). Fits Ford own production bodies prior to the changeover to American Central Manufacturing (ACM) supplied bodies. Not suitable for later GPWs without script or for Willys MB vehicles.
Installation notes
This panel replaces the complete left-hand rear panel. Note correct positioning of the stamped Ford script on the left-hand side. Pre-drilling and adjustment may be necessary for a perfect fit. Combine with correct Ford-type toolbox locks (rectangular) and other early Ford body features for historical authenticity.
Compatibility
ONLY for early Ford GPW (February-July 1942). NOT compatible with: later Ford GPW without script (after July 1942), Willys MB vehicles (which had Willys script), ACM Type 1 bodies, ACM Type 2 composite bodies. Willys MB used their own rear panels with possibly 'Willys' script on slat grille models.
Historical context
The stamped Ford script on the rear panel was originally intended to keep warranty administration between Ford and Willys separate. In July 1942, the military decided that these manufacturer markings had no place on war materiel, after which production switched to panels without script. Script GPWs are therefore more highly valued by collectors.
