Application

Suitable for bodies with ACM Type 1 (American Central Manufacturing, produced November 1941 to December 1943) and ACM Type 2 / Composite body (January 1944 to end of war production). ACM Type 1 was used on Willys MB and Ford GPW (Sept. 1943 - Dec. 1943), ACM Type 2 was used on both manufacturers from January 1944.

Installation notes

The cowl pillar is mounted on the inside of the front quarter panel, between the dashboard and the floor panel. Mounts with spot welds or plug-welds to floor, bulkhead and cowl sides. Ensure correct alignment before fixing to prevent body stress.

Compatibility

Specific to ACM1 and ACM2 body types. Not suitable for early Ford-produced bodies (Feb. 1942 - Aug. 1943) — these had different cowl reinforcements. The ACM Type 2 (composite) has the same cowl pillar as the late ACM Type 1. Note the difference between early Ford body and ACM types during restoration.

Historical context

The American Central Manufacturing Company (ACM) produced most jeep bodies during WWII for Willys-Overland. The ACM Type 2 'composite' body from late 1943 combined the best elements of Ford and Willys design, including Ford's improved cowl construction.
