Brake shoe anchor pin plate

For 9" drum brakes

This plate forms an essential component of the brake system on 9" drum brakes. The plate mounts to the brake backingplate and secures the anchor pin that holds the brake shoes in position and enables adjustment.

Application

9" drum brakes

Type

Anchor pin retaining plate

Mounting

Brake backingplate

Contents

1 piece (required per wheel)

Features

  • Retaining plate for brake shoe anchor pin
  • Suitable for 9" drum brake systems
  • Mounted to the inside of the backingplate
  • Works together with anchor pin and nut (3/4")
  • One plate required per wheel

★ Manufactured to original specifications for reliable brake system operation.

Installation notes

The plate mounts to the brake backingplate between both anchor pins at the bottom. For adjustment of the anchor pins, a special offset spanner (3/4" hex) is required to access the nut on the inside of the backingplate.

Compatibility

This plate fits vehicles with 9" drum brakes and the classic Bendix system with adjustable anchor pins at the bottom. Not compatible with later 10" brake systems or self-energising brakes applied from the 1960s onwards.

Historical context

The Bendix brake system with adjustable anchor pins was standard on WWII jeeps and early civilian models. Precise adjustment of these anchor pins was crucial for uniform braking action at both wheels.
