Application
This bracket was used by Ford and Willys from early 1943 onwards. Ford drawing dated January 1943. Assembly started at Willys in March 1943, at Ford Dallas presumably in April 1943. Vehicles prior to this period often received the bracket as a retrofit kit (TB 92) fitted in the field. Requires four pre-drilled holes in the rear panel just above the jerrycan holder reinforcement plate.
Installation notes
Mounts with four bolts and washers to the rear body panel, directly above the jerrycan holder (A-4123). Function: to keep the jerrycan strap centred and position the jerrycan bottom flat on the holder by creating sufficient clearance between jerrycan and body. On original bodies from approximately serial number 165582 (GPW) or 217309 onwards, the mounting holes are already present.
Compatibility
Fits vehicles with jerrycan holder mounting. Early production jeeps (script bodies, 1941-early 1943) left the factory without this bracket but were often fitted with retrofit kits in the field. Late production vehicles (after March/April 1943) had the bracket fitted from the factory. Requires A-4127 jerrycan strap and A-4123 jerrycan holder for complete installation.
Historical context
The jerrycan strap bracket is part of the evolution in jerrycan mounting during WWII. Initially, jeeps left the factory only with the reinforcement plate and bolts, but without bracket — fitting was done at the receiving unit. Ford designed the production bracket in January 1943 and began installation several months later.
