Installation notes
The socket is mounted in the left-hand toolbox with the flange on the inside and the ring with gasket on the outside. The drain hole must point downwards. The protective cap is mounted so that it opens upwards. Use spring lock washers for a good earth connection. The earth wire is connected to one of the lower mounting bolts.
Compatibility
WWII vehicles use a 3-pin Warner-type socket (connections for tail light, brake light and earth). This is a different system from the later M-series vehicles which use a multi-pin socket. Early script models and slat grille vehicles often did not have a trailer socket from the factory — this was added as a field modification.
Historical context
Warner Electric Brake Manufacturing Company of Beloit, Wisconsin, produced these trailer sockets during WWII. Many early vehicles only received the socket later as a field modification, as not all units routinely worked with trailers.
