Function:
Double-acting hydraulic telescopic shock absorber that dampens front suspension and axle movement for improved stability and comfort.
The early version uses an eye with rubber bushing at the top instead of a ball stud.

Installation sequence (TM 9-1808A):

Raise vehicle to relieve front axle.

Remove upper and lower mounting bolts.

Install new shock absorber, lower end first, then upper.

Torque bolts to 35–40 ft-lb (47–54 Nm).

Check free suspension travel.
Maintenance:

Inspect for leaks, bushing cracks, and loose mounts.

Check stroke: smooth and even without hesitation.

Always replace in axle pairs.
