Application

This brake shoe fits Dodge WC series vehicles equipped with 14 inch (360 mm) brake drums. The 14 inch brake drums were introduced from the T-211 series (1941-1942) for the rear brakes of WC 1/2 ton models. WC 3/4 ton models (WC-51 through WC-63, 1942-1945) and WC 1-1/2 ton 6x6 models (1943-1945) also use 14 inch brake drums. Note: early T-207 series (1940-1941) used 11 inch brake drums front and rear.

Installation notes

Check the diameter of your brake drums (11" or 14") before installation. Brake shoes should preferably be arced to follow the drum diameter exactly for optimal braking surface. After installation, adjust the brakes according to TM 9-808 specifications using a 0.008" feeler gauge. Check wheel cylinders and brake lines for leaks before installation. Always replace brake shoes per axle (left and right together) to prevent uneven braking.

Compatibility

NOT compatible with early Dodge WC T-207 series (WC-1 through WC-11) which have 11 inch brake drums. Check your vehicle: T-207 models (1940-early 1941) = 11" drums front and rear. T-211 models (1941-1942) = 11" front, 14" rear. T-215 models (1942) and all WC 3/4 ton = 14" front and rear. Verify the drum diameter before ordering.

Historical context

During WWII, Dodge switched from 11 inch to 14 inch brake drums for improved braking capacity with the heavier loads of military vehicles. The larger brake drums became standard on all WC 3/4 ton and 1-1/2 ton 6x6 models produced from 1942 to 1945 for the Allied forces.
