★ Correct reproduction of the early Autolite speedometer as used during the first production months of the Willys MB slat grille and Dodge WC half-ton vehicles.
Application
This speedometer is specifically intended for early Willys MB vehicles with slat grille (serial numbers MB100001 to approximately MB125809, production November 1941 to March 1942) and for Dodge WC half-ton vehicles with T207 and T211 engine (1940-1942). Later in production, this was replaced by an Autolite Type II with finer 1 mph graduation.
Installation notes
The speedometer is connected via the standard speedometer cable. Ensure correct lubrication of the cable with speedometer grease (not engine oil). Lubricate only the lower 2/3 of the cable.
Compatibility
CAUTION: This early speedometer with 5 mph graduation does NOT fit later MB/GPW models. From serial number approximately MB128875 (March 1942) onwards, speedometers with 1 mph graduation were used. Not suitable for Ford GPW, M38 or later models. For later Willys MB and Ford GPW: see WOA8180W (Waltham) or other late-production speedometers.
Historical context
The Autolite Type I speedometer with 5 mph graduation was used in the first 25,808 Willys MB slat grille jeeps, produced between 18 November 1941 and 6 March 1942. These early gauges also featured a fuel gauge marked 'GAS' instead of 'FUEL' and a +/-30 amp ammeter. Dodge used the same type in their early WC half-ton models.
