  • Used until approx. MB 137909 (April 1942)
  • Mounting recess in door and body

★ Reproduction of the original spring as used during the early production of the Willys MB and Ford GPW.

Application

Suitable for early Willys MB and Ford GPW with keyed lock glove box door (A-3835). The spring was originally used until approx. MB serial number 137909 (circa April 1942), after which production switched to the push-button lock without retention spring. Doors with notch for the spring continued to be produced until mid-1944, but the spring was removed during assembly.

Installation notes

The spring is placed between the notch at the bottom of the glove box door and the corresponding recess in the body. Note: during original production, this spring was often used as an assembly aid and removed before vehicle delivery (operation 103 of the GPW body assembly instructions). Check that your door and body have the required notches.

Compatibility

Only suitable for glove box doors with notch for spring attachment. Early MB up to approx. serial number 137909 (April 1942) had this system with keyed lock. Later, push-button locks were used without retention spring. The notch in the door was only completely eliminated between August and October 1944 (GPW 212799 to GPW 230373). Does not fit late type doors without notch.

Historical context

This retention spring was part of the early glove box design with keyed lock (lock A-3835). During wartime production, the design was simplified to a push-button system, with the spring no longer installed in delivered vehicles.
