Application
This strap set fits all military jeeps with a standard jerrycan bracket on the tailgate: Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945), Hotchkiss M201 (1955-1966), and M38/M38A1. The straps are used in combination with the jerrycan bracket (bracket A-4130) mounted to the tailgate.
Installation notes
The rivets must be driven through the strap ends and the metal bracket — this requires drilling the strap at the correct position for your specific jerrycan bracket. One strap runs under the jerrycan, the other over the top through the handle. The straps are fixed to the jerrycan bracket with rivets once the correct position is determined. Note: installation requires riveting tools (not included).
Compatibility
Designed for the standard American metal 5-gallon jerrycan. Not suitable for modern plastic jerrycans (Scepter, etc.) which have a larger diameter and height. Fits all WWII-correct jerrycan brackets with the standard mounting points.
Historical context
The jerrycan bracket with strap was introduced from mid-1942 onwards on the Willys MB and Ford GPW. From August 1942, new jeeps received a reinforcement plate on the tailgate, and from early 1943, the jerrycan brackets were factory-fitted. The Hotchkiss M201 retained this system throughout its entire production run (1955-1966).
