Oil pump shaft washer chain type

For L-134 engine with chain drive

Washer for the oil pump shaft on L-134 engines with chain-driven camshaft. This washer is part of the oil pump repair kit for early Go Devil engines where the camshaft is driven by chain rather than gears.

Application

L-134 engine chain drive

Component

Oil pump shaft washer

Engine type

Chain-driven camshaft

Reference

WO636600

Features

  • Washer for oil pump shaft
  • For chain-driven oil pump
  • Part of oil pump repair kit
  • For early L-134 Go Devil engines
  • Compatible with chain type oil pumps

★ Essential component for overhauling the oil pump on engines with chain-driven camshaft and oil pump.

Application

This washer is exclusively suitable for L-134 engines with chain drive. Willys MB and Ford GPW used only the chain system during WWII (1941-1945). On early CJ-2A up to approx. engine serial number 44417 (mid-1946), the chain system was still used, after which Willys switched to gear drive. The Hotchkiss M201 also originally had the chain system. Note: this component does NOT fit engines with gear-drive, which became standard from mid-1946 onwards.

Installation notes

This washer is part of the oil pump repair kit for the chain type. When overhauling the oil pump, all components of the repair kit must be replaced to guarantee correct operation. Check beforehand that your engine actually has chain drive — this is recognisable by the timing chain cover and the oil pump drive gear on the camshaft.

Compatibility

CAUTION: There are two different systems which are NOT interchangeable. Chain drive: Willys MB 1941-1945, Ford GPW 1941-1945, early CJ-2A up to eng. 44417 (1946), Hotchkiss M201 early production. Gear drive: late CJ-2A from approx. 44418 (mid-1946), CJ-3A, M38, CJ-3B, M38A1. Oil pump components are specific to one system — check which type your engine has before ordering.

Historical context

The Willys L-134 Go Devil engine was produced during WWII with chain drive for camshaft and oil pump. After the war, Willys switched to a simpler gear system, but early CJ-2A models still had the original chain system or used surplus engines from military production.
