Application
This wheel cylinder is suitable for Dodge WC-series vehicles with 14" brake drums. The 14" brake drums were introduced from the T-211 series (1941-1942) and remained standard on later Dodge WC 3/4 ton 4x4 models (1942-1945), WC 1-1/2 ton 6x6 models (1943-1945), post-war Power Wagon (1946-1968) and M37/M43 vehicles. Note: early 1/2 ton WC-series (T-207) had smaller 11" brake drums and use different wheel cylinders.
Installation notes
The wheel cylinder is fitted inside the brake drum and operates hydraulically to push the brake shoes apart when the brake pedal is depressed. Check before fitting that the cylinder bore is clean and undamaged. Bleed the complete brake system after fitting according to specifications. Always use new rubber seals and gaskets during overhaul.
Compatibility
Fitting location: front or rear axle RIGHT-HAND. Note that left-hand and right-hand wheel cylinders are NOT interchangeable. Wheel cylinders for 14" brakes do NOT fit vehicles with 11" brake drums (early 1/2 ton WC T-207 series). Check the diameter of your brake drums before ordering. The wheel studs on the left-hand side of Dodge WC vehicles have left-hand thread, right-hand side has right-hand thread.
Historical context
The 14" brake drums were introduced from the T-211 models (1941-1942) as an upgrade from the earlier 11" drums, and remained standard on all later Dodge WC 3/4 ton and 1-1/2 ton vehicles throughout the Second World War and also on post-war Power Wagon and M37-series vehicles.
