Application

This switch fits Dodge WC-series vehicles with closed cab: carryalls (WC-10, WC-17, WC-26, WC-53), ambulances (WC-9, WC-18, WC-27, WC-54) and panel trucks (WC-11, WC-42). The dome lamp was mounted in the roof directly behind the front headliner. Only closed cab variants had this feature — open cab weapons carriers and command cars did not have dome lighting.

Installation notes

The switch is mounted in the housing of the dome light unit. The switch type is of similar construction to that used in civilian Dodge trucks until the late 1960s. Note: 12V radio variants (WC-8, WC-16, WC-25) may have different wiring.

Compatibility

NOT compatible with open cab vehicles (weapons carriers, command cars without closed cab). Only for WC-series with closed cab. Early WC (½-ton, 1941-1942) and late WC (¾-ton, 1942-1945) used the same switch. Command cars remained standard 6V, some radio vehicles had 12V installation with modified wiring.

Historical context

The Dodge WC-series carryalls, ambulances and panel trucks were fitted with dome lighting for use in the enclosed cargo area. This was an important feature for medical personnel in ambulances and for transporting officers in carryalls.
