BRUSH GENERATOR 12 VOLTS (SET OF 4) DODGE
Generator brush 12 volt
Set of 4 pieces
Carbon brushes for the 12 volt generator used on Dodge Command Car and Carryall models. These brushes are essential maintenance parts for the charging system and provide electrical contact between the rotating commutator and the static part of the generator.

★ Professional quality replacement brushes for the 12 volt generator. A complete set contains sufficient brushes for one generator.
Application
These brushes are designed for the 12 volt generator (AL-GDJ4808) used from 1944 on Dodge Command Cars (WC-56, WC-57, WC-58) and Carryall models (WC-53). Some late WC-51 and WC-52 Weapons Carriers were also fitted with 12 volt systems for radio use. The 12 volt systems were introduced because Command Car production ceased in 1944 and the Weapons Carriers took over this role, requiring 12V for radio equipment.
Installation notes
When replacing the brushes, the generator must be completely dismantled. Check the commutator for grooves and wear — if necessary, turn down and undercut the mica. New brushes must be run in: use fine sandpaper (back against commutator) and pull the paper under each brush to fit the contact surface to the diameter. Remove carbon and grinding dust completely before use. After installation, the generator must be polarised for the correct charging system.
Compatibility
Note: These are brushes for 12 volt generators. Most Dodge WC vehicles had 6 volt systems with different brushes (NAPA R419). Only specific models had factory 12V: Command Cars, Carryalls, and some late WC-51/WC-52 for radio use. Check whether your vehicle originally had 12V or was converted later. When converting from 6V to 12V, other modifications are required in addition to the generator (voltage regulator, bulbs, coil).
Historical context
During WWII, Dodge introduced the 12 volt electrical system from 1944 on Command Cars and special vehicles. The higher voltage was not for better starting, but to enable radio systems to be used with thinner wiring — double voltage meant half the current for the same power.
