Application
This kit is designed for the Autolite distributor with mechanical advance as fitted to the Dodge WC 3/4 ton 4×4 trucks (1942-1945), notably the G502 (WC-51/WC-52 weapons carrier) and G507 (WC-56/WC-57 command car) series. Also suitable for later civilian Power Wagons and export models using the same distributor. Note: early Dodge WC models (T207/T211 up to engine serial number 42001) used a vacuum advance distributor — verify your distributor type before ordering.
Installation notes
Remove the distributor from the engine block after marking its position (rotor at 5 o'clock with cylinder 1 at TDC). Dismantle the old points, condenser and rotor. Thoroughly clean the distributor body and inspect the centrifugal advance mechanism for wear. Install the new components and adjust point gap according to factory specifications. Ensure correct position of the oil cup (2 o'clock) upon reinstallation. Check and adjust ignition timing with a strobe light after fitting.
Compatibility
Fits Autolite distributors with mechanical advance as used in Dodge WC series from 1942 (T211 engine no. 42002 onwards, T215 series) and civilian Power Wagons. NOT compatible with early vacuum advance distributors (IGS-4203 series) or later Prestolite electronic ignitions. Suitable for both original 6V systems and 12V conversions. Verify the identification number on your distributor for certainty.
Historical context
The Autolite distributor with mechanical advance became standard in the Dodge WC 3/4 ton series from 1942, after earlier models used a vacuum advance system. This robust ignition distributor proved its reliability in all weather conditions during WWII.
