★ Professional repair kit for restoring the original 6 volt dynamo on WWII Dodge military vehicles.

Application

This kit is designed for the 6 volt Auto-Lite dynamos fitted to Dodge WC 1/2 ton (1941-1942), WC 3/4 ton (1942-1945) and WC 1-1/2 ton 6x6 (1943-1945) vehicles. Please note: late-production WC51, WC52 and some WC54 ambulances were equipped with 12 volt systems from late 1944 onwards – check your vehicle before ordering.

Installation notes

For fitting, the dynamo must be removed from the engine. During dismantling, check the condition of the armature and field coil – if there are deep grooves or severe wear, professional overhaul is necessary. Thoroughly clean all contact surfaces before fitting the new parts. After fitting, test the charging voltage with the engine running (should be approximately 7.2-7.4 volts with a fully charged battery).

Compatibility

NOT suitable for 12 volt systems. Various Dodge WC models received a 12V conversion during or after the war – check your voltage regulator and battery to ensure 6V specification. The WC53, WC56, WC57, WC58 and Command Cars often had 12 volt systems as standard from the factory.

Historical context

The 6 volt Auto-Lite dynamos were standard on most Dodge WC vehicles during WWII. The 6 volt system was reliable and sufficient for the military requirements of that time; only later in the war and afterwards was the switch made to 12 volt for radio applications.
